It’s been over three years since the domestic violence incident that shook the pop culture world. Now, after lots of drama and legal proceedings, Chris Brown and Rihanna have been hanging out again.

Part of Chris Brown’s 2009 punishment for hitting Rihanna was that he wasn’t allowed to see her. February 2011 Brown got his restraining order downgraded to a “level one” meaning that he can now spend time with Rihanna, but cannot “annoy, molest, or conduct surveillance of the person on the order.”

Chris attended Rihanna’s 24th birthday party, though he tried to keep it a secret, even asking guests to sign a confidentiality agreement (his efforts failed big time.) The former couple have also released two collaborations together: “Birthday Cake Remix” and “Turn up the Music Remix.”

Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans has had a bad month. In addition to all the legal drama surrounding her falling out with former roommate Hannah Inman, she has had a terrible time of it health-wise. After being diagnosed with strep throat and mono, she had to go in last week for a tonsillectomy. Last night she was back in the hospital after she began coughing up blood, and returned home late last night only to begin coughing up blood again a few hours later. Jenelle expressed her frustration on Facebook and even posted a rather gruesome photo of what her latest coughing fits had produced.

Valentine’s Day as we know it now is very bittersweet: Sweet if you’ve got a generous crush/love and/or lots of friends to shower you with gifts, cards, emails, tweets, flowers, and candy, until you’re swimming in red and pink colored flattery. It’s also sweet if you’re a pop star who spends Valentine’s Day with a dying fan.

But it’s also very bitter, for those who think it’s just another cynical holiday meant to sell candy and cards, and of course, if you’re not linked up to anyone romantically during this time, it just seems like everyone who is is just rubbing it in your face. That girl at work that keeps getting flowers delivered. That kid at school with ALL the candygrams. Your best friend/sister/mortal enemy and her reservations at the poshest spot in town with her fiance (who’s in finance, looks like George Clooney, and loves puppies.) Really, it’s kind of sadistic when you think about it.

So, how did this wretched/wonderful holiday come about? It turns out the history of Valentine’s day is even more brutal than finding an empty Valentine’s cubby in elementary school.

Young Avalanna Routh has a very rare form of brain cancer called Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumors. In an effort to cheer her up during a particularly harsh round of chemotherapy last year friends and family threw her a “wedding” in which she received a t-shirt that read, “The Future Mrs. Bieber.” About a week ago her babysitter and her sister set up a Facebook and Twitter page in hopes of getting the attention of Bieber’s camp with the goal of getting Avalanna to meet her hero. The hard work paid off as Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun took notice and flew the Routh family to New York City for some quality time with the Biebs.
