Angelina Jolie stunned the world when she revealed Tuesday that over the past few months she’s been undergoing procedures in association with a double mastectomy to reduce her chances of developing breast cancer because she has a mutation in her BRCA1 gene. This choice has reduced her breast cancer risk from 87% to only 5%, but she still has a 50% chance of developing ovarian cancer, the very disease that killed her mother.
