Adam Levine obviously loves America after saying “I hate this country”

Adam Levine found himself marooned publicity wise after he said “I hate this country” following the elimination of two of his team members on Tuesday’s results episode of The Voice.

Adam made the comment as contestants Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons were given the boot due to a lack of viewer votes. Almost immediately folks started letting Levine have it via Twitter, calling him out for being unpatriotic and what not. Adam responded with the always popular “definitions defense” by tweeting out the meaning of the terms “joke,” “humorless,” “lighthearted” and “misunderstand.”

Here’s the clip and the moment in question. Levine’s controversial remark happens at the 1:14 mark:

It’s interesting to note that the video above is from the official Voice YouTube channel. I’m guessing NBC doesn’t mind the added attention too much.

Realizing he better do something more than just throw out some Merriam-Webster at folks, Levine issued a statement via Us Weekly:

“I obviously love my country very much. My comments last night were made purely out of frustration. Being a part of The Voice, I am passionately invested in my team and want to see my artists succeed. Last night’s elimination of Judith and Sarah was confusing and downright emotional for me and my comments were made based on my personal dissatisfaction with the results. I am very connected to my artists and know they have long careers ahead, regardless of their outcome on the show.”

I think it’s pretty clear that Adam didn’t literally mean he hated America. If you analyze the situation, the people he wasn’t too keen of are the viewers who take the time to vote for The Voice.
