At the prompting of Kanye West via his official website, hundreds of fans turned out at the historical Alamo in San Antonio, Texas to watch a screening of his latest music video “New Slaves.” The plan was to have the clip projected onto the face of the building but local authorities took a stand and turned fans away on Sunday night.

Not everyone in attendance was thrilled with the idea as members of the Texas National Movement made the scene to protest West. Angie Alexander told MySanAntonio, “It’s very disrespectful to the people who died here.”

“It’s sad that people have such little respect for the Alamo,” A spokesperson for the Texas General Land Office, the Alamo’s caretaker, added.

San Antonio police officers said that no permit had been issued and that if anyone would have attempted to set up a projector, they would have been immediately shut down.

On Saturday, 3 screenings were scheduled around Houston but none of them happened either as authorities there also cited permit issues as well as public safety concerns.

These Texas showings were all part of a promotional campaign to have the likeness of Yeezus projected upon landmarks across the globe.
