VH1’s scripted drama Hit the Floor premiered to great ratings as folks tuned in to catch the new show about the dynamics between a fictitious professional basketball team in Los Angeles and their cheerleading squad that brings the spirit and the heat.
The lead cast member of the show is Taylour Paige, who portrays Ahsha Hayes, and it turns out that the budding young star has some experience with being a cheerleader in L.A. as she was a Laker Girl for a brief 3-month run.
In her formspring account, Taylour discussed her experience with the world-famous sports dance troupe as well as her reasons for leaving:
I’m extremely busy and over committed myself. I am a full time student and laker girls was something extra I thought i’d do for a year for fun and exposure. I’m really young but know where I want to go, and Lakers was taking away from some of the things I’ve been working hard for, for a long time. It just wasn’t really for me. But it was really awesome, and I love the Lakers, so the experience was something.
I will always acknowledge and recognize that I learned from. You try new things, you learn what works, what doesn’t, you realize what you really want and you work to get it. I did it for the time being, tried to stick it through, but I’ve always had my head set on an ultimate goal and when that suffered I decided to make a decision. 🙂
FoxSports did a special on the making of the 2011 Laker Girls Calendar that included Paige as she discussed being nervous about trying to come across as sexy in her shoot.
Here’s the part that features Taylour – her section begins at the 3:18 mark:
From Laker Girl to Devil Girl, it’s one of those stories that can only be written in Hollywood I suppose. You can keep up with Taylour via her official Twitter account here.
Hit the Floor airs on VH1 Monday nights at 9/8c.
