Just a couple weeks after the announcement that the BBC’s revitalized Doctor Who series would be returning for an eighth season, the network delivered a bit of bad news to fans by announcing today that the show’s star since 2010, Matt Smith, is leaving prior to the new season. According to the BBC’s announcement (included in its entirety), Matt will remain on board for the much-anticipated 50th anniversary Doctor Who special airing November 23 as well as the annual Christmas special, but those will be the last two episodes.
