Tennessee-based restaurant chain and retailer Cracker Barrel, who are still trying to rebuild their image after the U.S. Department of Justice found them guilty of numerous racist practices in 2004, announced last week that they would be removing “selected products which we were concerned might offend some of our guests.” As you might imagine, the decision drew quite the backlash from a large number of Cracker Barrel customers, and this weekend the company did a complete turnaround and even offered an apology. The Robertson family from Duck Dynasty issues an official statement addressing the suspension of patriarch Phil Robertson after his controversial comments about homosexuality and race in a new GQ interview. In the statement the family acknowledges Phil’s comments were “coarse” but adds that they were “grounded in the teachings of the Bible.” The statement then casts a shadow on the future of the series when it reveals the family is “in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty,” but that they “cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm.”
