The U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team obliterated the competition over in London as they took home the gold for America. The next closest competitor was Russia and they were lagging 5 points behind (which is a HUGE margin). It was such a dominating performance it has some asking if this is the greatest women’s gymnastics team America has ever assembled. One of the many great individual performances was a vault so spectacular by McKayla Maroney that it literally dropped a judge’s jaw! Christian Bale, who plays Batman in the Christopher Nolan series, was horrified by the Dark Knight shootings in Aurora, Colorado and is now visiting the victims. Twelve people were killed, and 58 were wounded when Joshua Holmes opened fire at a midnight premiere showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora early Friday morning.
James Holmes had his arraignment hearing this morning for his alleged attack at a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises that resulted in the death of 12. Following this hearing the district attorney’s office run by Carol Chambers will have 72 hours from the hearing to file formal charges. In addition this hearing also provided the first look at one of Holmes’ public defenders.
Patricia Legarreta and Jamie Rohrs were in attendance at the midnight showing of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado early Friday morning when a gunman opened fire, killing 12. The couple caught the attention of the media after it was revealed they were at the movie with their 4-month-old son and Legarreta’s 4-year-old daughter. Patricia suffered a minor bullet wound, but both children and Jamie were unharmed – Jamie due in part to the fact that he bolted from the theater, leaving Patricia to tend to the safety of the two children. The showdown continues between media giants Viacom and DirecTV as the the two sides continue to be unable to reach a new contract agreement, resulting in all of Viacom’s networks (including MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon) to be unavailable to DirecTV subscribers since Tuesday night at midnight. In reaction to their subscribers outrage over not being able to see certain programs, DirecTV posted a list of “Other ways to watch” Viacom programming that included links to the programs that offered full episodes streaming on network sites. In an apparent reaction to those links, Viacom has since removed recent full-episode streaming content for some of its shows, including Teen Mom, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report. Things went from bad to worse in an Osceola courthouse on Monday where Jason Clair, accused of murdering two brothers, who is using Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law as a defense, was in a hearing. Members of both the accused and the deceased families were on hand as some were there to testify but the hearing was postponed so that new gun evidence could be used. In what proved to be a serious lack of planning, both families were escorted out of the courtroom and were waiting in the same small lobby when tempers boiled over.
