‘The Miami Zombie’ was not on bath salts at time of face-eating attack

Rudy Eugene shot while attempting to eat a man's face

Rudy Eugene made national headlines when he stripped naked and ate the face off of homeless man Ronald Poppo. The act was so heinous that people were sent scurrying for an explanation as to how it could have happened.

The explanation that was widely accepted, including among leaders within the Miami Police Department, was that Eugene was on the drug bath salts (a drug that was able to the published legally in the U.S. until just this past fall.) This ignited a national conversation and sparked fears of what this particular drug can cause its users to do. While there are plenty of situations in which bath salts have caused folks to act in extreme ways the drug in question was not in Eugene’s system according to the medical examiner’s official findings.

“Within the limits of current technology by both laboratories, marijuana is the only drug identified in the body of Mr. Rudy Eugene.”

The Miami Herald reports that the medical examiner went as far as to seek assistance from an outside forensic toxicology lab. As a team they also found no cocaine, heroin, PCP, oxycodone, amphetamines or any other known street drug other than…

Marijuana.

Unlike bath salts, there is NO speculation that marijuana could cause a human to crave another human’s flesh. There was clearly something else very serious going on with this dude.

Poppo is still recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital. A while back an official photo was released of Ronald’s devoured countenance. I’ve made the call not to post the earlier supposed pics of Poppo and I’m gonna do the same here. At the same time, if you’re curious you can see it here but IT IS EXTREMELY GRAPHIC.
