MOVIE REVIEW The Last Exorcism delivers, to a point
The Last Exorcism doesn’t deliver on the shock-and-awe horror promised in the trailer, but it does deliver a fresh take on “the exorcism theme” with some fantastic acting and somewhat subdued – but nonetheless entertaining – BOO! moments. For me the film was a pleasant surprise… right up until the final ten minutes. (Spoilers included, though I don’t give away the disappointing ending.)

Shotgun Stories is the directorial debut from Jeff Nichols that plays out like a Greek tragedy set in the modern-day South. Vengeance, violence and family honor steamroll the small town of England, Arkansas as two sets of brothers clash after their mutual father’s death. Nichols does a masterful job of handling the age-old themes with a rare quietness and absence of sentimentality that left me knowing I had just watched a great film.
