England jumped out early on the US in their opening round match up in the 2010 FIFA World Cup when captain Steven Gerrard scored with a left-footer in the first five minutes of play. Things were looking bleak for the US team, who have a history of rolling over after going down early, but Clint Dempsey tied it up late in the first half with a long shot that England goal keeper Robert Green let trickle in to tie things up at 1-1.

It was the first goal scored by the US on England outside of the US in sixty years!

The goal keeper fail comes after England kept fans and players in suspense as to who would get the start in front of the net, announcing just before game time that the duties would fall on Green. D’oh!

Here are a number of videos showing the Clint Dempsey goal from multiple angles:

If the US manages to win by one or end up with a tie, I’m sure Green’s passport will be revoked and he’ll be looking for a new country to call home!
