If you’re not a sports person, or simply missed it, referee Jeff Maconaghy awarded Michigan a first down after bringing out the chains during this year’s Outback Bowl. The problem? The chain measurement unequivocally showed that the nose of the football was short. The old ball coach Steve Spurrier lost his collective mind and the blunder has resulted in a Facebook page dedicated to the requested firing of Maconaghy. It was such an obvious flub that even a child could see it. To prove the point, a proud daddy uploaded his 3-year-old explaining in detail why the call was flubbed. The U.S. Navy has been dealing with the problematic usage of bath salts among its sailors and as a solution they have put together a PSA about the drug called, “BATH SALTS: It’s not a fad…It’s a NIGHTMARE.” In the clip a young man gets some bath salts in the mail, does a line of the drugs, vomits, sees his girlfriend as a deranged demon, punches her in the face, returns home and sees his roommate as a demon, passes out, ends up in the hospital, convulses and then gets tranquilized by a group of people in fatigues all while a catchy dance club mix plays. The New Year brings along with it a slew of new shows and one of the most highly anticipated is the Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries. The series is based on the book from Candace Bushnell and it’s about the school days life of protagonist Carrie Bradshaw. AnnaSophia Robb landed the lead as a younger Carrie, but the focus of this post is Austin Butler who is set to portray 80’s era teenage Carrie’s main love interest, Sebastian Kydd. One of my favorite year-end lists is the CNN Hero project that highlights many people doing extraordinary things that I may not have otherwise known about. This was certainly the case for Catalina Escobar of Cartagena, Colombia. Escobar was volunteering her time at a local hospital in the town of Cartagena when a 12-day-old boy died in her arms. This was heartbreaking enough, but when she discovered his passing could have been prevented with a mere $30 she had in her pocket it was a situation she found untenable. This, combined with the tragic loss of her own son, led her to action and over the last decade she’s been credited with having saved over 2,000 babies. Tis the season for random viral video thefts and so it was for Mr. Al Alverson from deep in the heart of Texas. Al had come home expecting the delivery of an iPad mini he had purchased as a Christmas gift for his daughter. When he discovered it was not there, he went to his surveillance footage and got a shock when he discovered why. It turns out that a UPS delivery dude who had brought a separate package had stolen the iPad mini that was delivered by a FedEx delivery dude earlier in the day. This IS NOT logistics my friends. Just a few days ago I wrote about Mariah Carey and her revealing attire doing their best to help light up the Christmas tree in Rockefeller center. Things got out of hand between Lachey and some Charger fans which resulted in Nick getting tossed out of the stadium.
