VIDEO Carrie Underwood vows to return money to city after shortened set

American Idol alum Carrie Underwood has been struggling through some vocal issues the past few days (Underwood has been under the weather). On Friday night in Des Moines she soldiered through a set that was slightly shortened and towards the conclusion she did something surprising.

Not satisfied with her own performance she announced that she would be returning all the proceeds from that evening’s show back to the community. She said:

“I feel real guilty about making any money on this show tonight. So whatever I’m making is just going to go right back into this community. I feel that’s the right thing to do.”

A fan in attendance posted a clip of Carrie’s gracious gesture and posted it to YouTube:

It’s interesting to note that the YouTube user who posted the clip, njcarriefan, wanted to make sure folks understood that it wasn’t a “bad” show and that fans were shocked by the announcement because they had enjoyed it so much.

Note to media outlets using this video (and there are a LOT of you now): I’d appreciate you getting the story right. I’ve seen the headline “botched concert” on a few sites and this is completely inaccurate. Check the reviews-there wasn’t an unhappy attendee in the whole venue. It was a brilliant show and despite the fact that she was ill, Carrie did an amazing job. You would not have guessed that she was sick until you heard her speak later in the show. As she states in the video, she has high expectations of herself and her shows and she felt that she wasn’t at 100%. The donation was a kind and classy, though entirely unnecessary gesture.

Kudos to Carrie for doing what she felt was right and thanks to her fans for posting up the moment. The pic above was from a show earlier this month but I just HAD to share Carrie in that Willie T-Shirt (swoon)!
