Teen Mom‘s Farrah Abraham has been forced to grow up fast since becoming pregnant in 2008 as a 17-year-old high school student. In addition to the struggles of being a teen mom, her child’s father, Derek Underwoood, died in a car accident just two months prior to daughter Sophia being born, and a strained relationship with her mother, Debra Danielson, culminated with an assault charge and Danielson’s arrest in January.
Farrah, along with Teen Mom‘s Maci, Amber and Catelynne, opened up to Us Weekly about her struggles in an exclusive interview that will hit newsstands August 30. Last night was the final episode of the first season of MTV’s Teen Mom reality show, which followed the lives of four mothers that were originally on the network’s very popular 16 and Pregnant series last season. I’ve been following the show and making posts all season and although I’ve been quick to poke a little fun at some of the folks in the show (When is Butch getting his own series?!?), I have to confess that when it’s all said and done the series was nothing short of an enlightening documentary.

Amber and Gary continue to slowly, painfully go their separate ways in what seems like a poorly acted version of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.” To make it slower and more painful, Amber takes Leah on the worst job interview ever. Maci continues to hope against hope Ryan will locate his initiative and personality. Farrah shops around for a new apartment in hopes of not getting into a domestic dispute that would result in her getting choked and her mother Debra Danielson getting arrested. Catelynn and Tyler continue to provide stark contrast by being mature, this time with Tyler seriously considering joining the Air Force and proposing to Catelynn.

It’s Wednesday and that means… Teen Mom full episode! Did you miss last night’s episode or just want to watch all the mama drama again? That’s what we’re here for!
A “brief” recap of Teen Mom Episode 6 “Standing Up:” Amber struggles with receiving financial support from Gary and needing to put Leah in daycare. Ryan continues to prove Newton’s First Law: “An object at rest tends to remain at rest.” Meanwhile Maci seems to get bad advice from a relationship counselor that I think has a crush on Ryan. Farrah silences the haters by doing a number of unselfish things including taking Sophia to the library and talking to her estranged sister. Tyler and Catelynn continue to amaze with their ability to deal with an incomprehensibly bizarre situation at home as (let’s see if I can get this right) Tyler’s dad Butch gets in a fight with Catelynn’s mom and comes to stay with his ex-wife (Tyler’s mom). Also, Butch goes to court to see if he can avoid prison after violating his parole.

Yup, more mama drama! In Teen Mom Episode 5 “A Little Help” Maci continues to try to make it work with babby daddy Ryan, but Ryan doesn’t seem to want to try at anything. Gary makes a selfless offer even Amber can’t refuse. Farrah gets frustrated by a potential date who sounds like her parents. Catelynn struggles with having given up her daughter for adoption and attends a birth mom retreat in hopes of trying to better come to terms with her decision.
18-year-old Farrah Abraham has allowed MTV to document a very difficult part of her life – first on the reality show 16 and Pregnant and now on the series Teen Mom. As implied by the title, 16 and Pregnant followed Farrah, a popular high school student and member of the cheerleading squad at the time, through the course of her teen pregnancy including the judgmental attitudes of most of her friends and the disappointment of her mother and father.

The mama drama continues! In MTV’s Teen Mom Episode 4 “Moving On” Amber and Gary’s rocky relationship gets rockier and their future together is in doubt. Catelynn’s mother (and Tyler’s dad) are packing up and moving to Richmond, leaving Catelynn looking for a place to live. Maci visits her college friends and tries to decide whether her baby daddy deserves a second chance. Farrah decides to go on birth control and takes a risk by choosing a device that requires refrigeration.
MTV appears to have a male/female graphic violence double standard, censoring the now-infamous “Snooki Punch” from the airing of the episode of Jersey Shore, yet they had no problem with Amber violently pushing her fiance Gary into a corner by his throat and then slapping him while screaming the entire time. Could you imagine the outrage if the roles had been reversed – if Gary had choked Amber and violently pushed her into the corner and hit her?!? (We almost get the same effect when Amber grabs him by his D-cup man boobs.)

The teenage mama drama continues as Maci deals with her absentee baby daddy Ryan, Amber deals with an avalanche of bad news, Farrah continues her efforts on the dating scene with a new beau and Catelynne starts to feel a little distant from Carly.
