It has been a rough few months for the Brown family from the TLC reality series Sister Wives as the show’s patriarch Kody Brown lost his brother Curtis Brown in a motorcycle accident back in June and earlier this week Kody’s father, Winn Brown, passed away at his home in Lovell, Wyoming the age of 78.

After the Brown family of TLC’s Sister Wives found fame by exposing their taboo lifestyle on television, it opened up a possibility in the minds of Americans that polygamist families can be very modern and happy. Last year year the Darger family came out too, giving television interviews, and publishing a book about their family called Love Times Three.

The Brown Family has a reason to relax and celebrate this weekend! Thursday a Utah prosecutor wrote in court filings that criminal charges would not be pursued against Kody Brown and his four wives Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn.

The Brown family from TLC’s Sister Wives recently published a very honest and open book called Becoming Sister Wives about the complicated history of their lives in a plural marriage. There’s a lot of great stuff in there, but one thing that’s making a lot of headlines is Janelle’s revaluation that in the eighth year of her marriage she moved away from the family for several years.

Janelle, the brightest and most savvy of the bunch, has watched her weight creep up slowly over the years (especially during her six pregnancies) and was mortified by having to reveal her weight on national television. It was heartbreaking to watch her almost forced into doing so, and facing the words of the trainer who laid out the emotional and mortal consequences of remaining at a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 44 (She weighed in at 271.) The ideal BMI range is 18-25, with over 30 being obese.

The Brown Family (Kody and his wives Meria, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn) stunned the nation when they openly discussed and filmed their polygymist lifestyle on television last year. It was incredible because it’s a minority behavior frowned upon by many, but also because it’s a felony offense under state bigamy laws, including laws in Utah, where the family lived in Lehi until their show aired.

We already knew that relations were pretty complicated within The Brown Family on TLC’s Sister Wives, but tonight’s bombshell proves that their family tree is more intertwined than we thought.

It was already difficult keeping up with the 21 family members on TLC’s hit reality series Sister Wives which features Utah polygamist Kody Brown and his four wives, but throw in the fact that some of the children are from a previous marriage and that one of the sister wives was married to a brother of another sister wife, and what you’re left with is a big ol’ polygamuddy mess!
