“Secrets” videos are confessional videos uploaded to YouTube. The stories told via hand-printed note cards while meaningful background music plays. The effect is refreshing and gripping storytelling that really helps a lot of other people feel less alone in the struggles they face, and no doubt has a cathartic and healing effect on the videos’ creators.
The video below is an especially touching “secrets” video made by a 16-year-old girl named Kait who lost her mother October 5, 2011.
Kait’s mother, who suffered from depression and anxiety for a long time, was missing for a few hours, so Kait went looking for her, and found her hanging from a tree in the woods.
Her video is set to her mom’s favorite song “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry, and is extremely life-affirming. At the end, she urges others who may be suicidal to seek help.
