We’ve got a new update on My 600 Lb Life star Zsalynn Whitworth, and it’s yet another happy step in her weight loss journey away from enabling ex-husband Gareth. Last year, Starcasm broke the news of the new love in her life; we’re happy to report that Zsalynn and her new man are still together and look happier than ever.
When My 600 Lb Life viewers first met Zsalynn, she had already achieved some measure of viral fame thanks to national news profiles chronicling her career as a fat fetish model. That infamy help set up her debut episode’s hero-and-villain dynamic: it was Zsalynn versus her then-husband Gareth, who openly acknowledged that he preferred his wife at an unhealthy weight. Perhaps most infamously, Gareth earned viewer ire for taking Zsalynn to a fast food drive-through window immediately following successful weight loss surgery.
Fortunately, the two are no longer married. And in case you’re one of the viewers who wonders whether My 600 Lb Life‘s editors manipulated footage to make Gareth look worse than he actualy was, here’s what Zsalynn herself had to say about the matter:
I know a lot of people have had questions about if my husband is really as awful in real life or if it was just editing, but to be honest, editing made him look like an angel. It’s hard for me to speak for him. I feel like he loves me in the only way he knows how. I feel like I probably deserve a different kind of love. And maybe someday he can change or I can change.
Of course, divorcing Gareth didn’t solve all of Zsalynn’s problems. As she explained during her most recent Where Are They Now? update, sticking to a new, healthy diet and exercise plan was a struggle following a years-long habit that called for the exact opposite. And with her newfound freedom came unexpected opponents: loneliness and depression.
“Being alone a lot has been a bit of an adjustment for me, so I’ve struggled with being depressed when I don’t see [my daughter] Hannah for a while,” Zsalynn said in the 2016 episode. “And being alone has made it even harder for me to deal with my cravings.”
Based on her latest weight loss pics, it looks like she’s dealing just fine. Her 378+ pound weight loss appears to be intact and then some.
