UPDATE MAFS Tom and Lilly divorce confirmed, couple remain ‘best friends’

Married At First Sight Tom and Lilly divorce confirmed

Yesterday, we broke the exclusive news that Married At First Sight Season 4 couple Thomas Wilson and Lillian Vilchez appeared to have filed for divorce in Miami-Dade County earlier this month, with Lillian’s last named misspelled (whether or intentional or not) as Uilchet. In response to our story, Tom told us he and Lilly would be issuing a statement soon — and that’s exactly what they did earlier today, confirming they are indeed splitting up after 14 months of marriage.

“After much thought and reflection, and after being married for over a year we have decided to file for divorce,” Lilly posted on Instagram. “This was not a easy decision for either of us because we do love each other very much but sometimes God has other plans. This is the route we have decided to take and all we request is you respect our privacy in this delicate matter, divorce is never easy for anyone, especially not such a public one.”

Lilly revealed that she and Tom are still close: “However, we are best friends and we will always be there for each other even if we are not married and continue growing that relationship just without a piece of paper binding us together. We appreciate all the love and support you all have showed us during our marriage and hope you continue to support us during this difficult time.”

Lilly then addressed Tom, writing, “Still love you though! ❤️?”

The statement was accompanied by a photo of this quote:

Not addressed in the statement is the misspelling of Lilly’s last name in the divorce filing, so it’s still unknown if that was intentional (to keep the news a secret) or an actual typo. I’d say it’s about a 95% chance of being the former. (Do we have any Florida divorce attorneys out there? Is the “typo trick” a viable method? Can you intentionally misspell your name in the initial filing and simply wait to correct it until the final stage? I digress…)

Tom iterated that he and Lilly are still best friends on Twitter, and linked to the People story confirming their divorce:

As we previously reported, online records indicate Tom and Lilly are scheduled for a hearing on their divorce filing on June 14.

We wish Tom and Lilly all the best, and we’re so glad to see that their separation appears to be more than amicable!

On a side note, I propose that TLC launch a Married At First Sight spin-off in which they take some of the men and women from the show that didn’t find true love and pair them up for a second marriage. They could call it Remarried At First Sight. (I like this much better than a Married At First Sight meets Bachelor In Paradise kind of show.)
