Meet new American Horror Story star Jyoti Amge, the World’s Smallest Woman
The World’s Smallest Woman just landed a big role on American Horror Story!
Co-creator Ryan Murphy shared the news by tweeting the top picture of Jessica Lange and Jyoti Amge. He added, “Jessica and our newest cast member Jyoti Amge…the world’s smallest woman.” (Bonus: The picture seems like a glimpse at Jessica’s character, a German ex-pat who runs the Freak Show.)
At just 2 ft. 0.6 in. tall, Jyoti was deemed the World’s Smallest Woman by Guinness Book of Records on her 18th birthday in 2011. The India native was born with a rare form of dwarfism called achondroplasia. According to the Mayo Clinic, 80 percent of people born with achondroplasia have parents of average height. The affected person usually grows to about 4 ft. tall — so Jyoti is just more than half that and nearly three feet shorter than the average Indian woman.
“After turning 7 I started getting some attention from the press, which helped my confidence a lot to be recognized in a positive way for my size,” she told Guinness World Records in 2012. “Then since getting the record, it has really become an advantage being my size!”
She was going to school and working as a political campaigner at the time, but said she wanted to become actress. She added, “But not just in Bollywood films, I want to meet Hollywood stars, too.”
The American Horror Story Freak Show cast includes Patti LaBelle, Wes Bentley, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Jyoti’s new friend Jessica and many more… So it definitely sounds like her dream has come true.
