Glee’s Cory Monteith has checked himself into rehab

Actor Cory Monteith, best known for his role as Finn Hudson on Fox’s hit Glee, has checked into rehab.

Via Monteith’s rep who spoke with People:

“[Cory] has voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction. He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”

The 30-year-old has been open in the past about his struggles with substance abuse. In a 2011 interview he admitted to having entered rehab when he was 19. He explained at the time:

“I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors, too. But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it.”

In the Parade piece, Cory revealed just how bad things were for him as he discussed having started abusing alcohol and marijuana at age 13. He then moved on in his drug abuse to what he labeled, “Anything and everything, as much as possible. I had a serious problem.”

Cory’s girlfriend and Glee co-star Lea Michele also spoke with People, expressing her support:

“I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”
