Do the people on Property Brothers get to keep the furnishings?

Property Brothers has long been one of the most popular shows on HGTV, but there’s one question people have about the show that’s asked more persistently than any other: What happens to all the Property Brothers furnishings after Jonathan and Drew are done? Do the people on Property Brothers get to keep the furnishings?

At the same time, the uncertainty surrounding this question is a little understandeable. After all, the same question is often asked of fellow HGTV stars Joanna and Chip Gaines, whose Fixer Upper also features elaborately remodeled and redecorated homes–and, where Fixer Upper is concerned, the answer to the question is no. All the furnishings on that show are available for purchase, but none of them are included in the remodeling of the home.

Drew and Jonathan Scott answered the Property Brothers furnishings question most prominently a couple of years ago, in the preface to a Facebook Q&A they did with fans. You can check out the full Q&A here, if you’re so inclined; the relevant answer is as follows:

A lot of you want to know if we include the cost of the furniture in the renovation budget. Yes, on Property Brothers all furniture and décor pieces are included in the renovation budget. This can be a considerable part of the budget, you definitely want to take into account how much you can spend on furnishing your newly renovated home. This will determine if you can buy brand new or if you will need to do a combination of things like buying second-hand or refinishing existing furniture to keep costs down. Remember, reuse, reduce, and recycle when you can as you don’t need everything to be brand new to make the place look fresh.

In addition, if you’re wondering how the brothers manage to stay within budget while furnishing an entire home, it looks like the two figures that appear in each Property Brothers budget–namely, the cost of the house and the cost of the renovation–are actually from two different sources (often a home loan and a renovation loan), and not the same place. Jonathan and Drew also salvage as much material as possible on each project, put up $10,000 of their production company’s money on each project (mostly for labor), and, of course, receive “certain sponsored products” as they go.
