LOVE AFTER LOCKUP Is Stan Smith really rich?
One of the numerous break out stars from the current season of Love After Lockup is randy millionaire widower Stan Smith. “Big Lots Hugh Hefner” sports a red velvet suit as he boasts about his sex drive and incredibly large… bank account. But how rich is Stan really?
On the show, Stan says that he is worth approximately 2.3 million dollars. If accurate, that is certainly in the top one percent of Love After Lockup cast members! However, having a worth of just over two million for a retired single man is not exactly extraordinarily wealthy. My impression is that Stan was someone who was smart with his money and probably started investing for his retirement relatively early.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to figure out what Stan did for a living, but he revealed on the show that he made a lot of money via investing. “I am a millionaire because of a lot of lucky breaks,” Stan said. “I have a fascination with the stock market. I made my first million by the time I was 40.”
Despite not having much luck with getting information about Stan’s occupation, I was able to find out quite a bit about some of his assets — and the results are anything but over the top.
Stanley and his former wife Jean purchased a two-story home in the suburbs of St. Louis that was originally built in 2001. I could only track the property records back to 2006, but there are other indications online that Stan and Jean purchased the home new in 2001.
Because the home has never sold, the real estate website listings for the property do not have an accurate square footage. (For example, Zillow lists the property as being 972 square feet, which is absurdly low.) The county property records indicate that the home is 972 square feet per floor with two floors. That would equate to roughly 1,944 square feet. However, there is also a basement that looks to be functional to some degree.
Cruising up and down Stan’s street on Google Street View, I found a couple other very similar houses with square footage ranging from 2,000 to 2,500 square feet. The current “Zestimate” on the 2,500 square foot house is $311,700.
Here are some interior shots of Stan’s house from Love After Lockup:
Interestingly, online tax records in Missouri also include vehicles. As a result, I was able to see all of the vehicles that Stan claimed to own from 2008 until this year! He currently owns a 2010 Ford Mustang GT that he looks to have bought new more than a decade ago. He also owns a 2009 Chevy Equinox that he has also had for more than a decade. That’s all that he claimed on his most recent taxes.
His past vehicles include a 2004 Chevy Impala and a 2007 Chevy Cobalt.

If you are curious about Stan’s wife and whether or not she worked, I was able to find that information out. According to Jean’s obituary, she worked as a registered nurse at a St. Louis area hospital for 34 years. She was 56 years old at the time of her passing in 2012.
Once again, Stan seems to me like somebody who made good (not great) money and was really smart with it. The result is a sizable nest egg that will allow him to splurge a little to satisfy his “age is just a number” lust for life. Props to Stan!
Meanwhile, Stan’s Love After Lockup co-star Daonte looks to be the exact opposite:
To find out just how much more Stan is willing to spend on his prison bae Lisa (if any), be sure to tune in to new episodes of Love After Lockup airing Friday nights at 9/8c on WE tv!
