Baby Bumpgate Update: Beyonce denies wearing prosthetic, launches maternity wear line
The ol’ interwebs expoloded yesterday after a video clip from Sunday Night HD turned up on Youtube showing Beyonce’s supposed baby bump obviously imploding as she sat down for an interview. Here is the photo – CLICK HERE to watch the clip and see a brief animated gif featuring just the belly implosion.
The incident seemed to confirm earlier rumors that Beyonce had been wearing a prosthetic baby bump to make her look further along that she actually was, a rumor she continues to adamantly deny, even after the seemingly indisputable video evidence. Her spokesman talked with ABC News earlier today and called the rumors “stupid, ridiculous and false.”
I tried to locate the full statement without any luck. I’m wondering if perhaps that line wasn’t taken out of context and her rep was in fact not talking about the rumors being “stupid, ridiculous, and false” but Beyonce’s baby bump instead. (ZING!)
Adding fuel to the fire Beyonce reveals in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar that she plans to launch a line of maternity wear! From harpersbazaar.com:
She is reveling in the chance to seek out pieces to complement her new figure and is even at work on a maternity collection to add to the House of Deréon line she produces with her mother, Tina Knowles. “All I see now are clothes that are flattering on a pregnant woman,” she says. “It’s been so exciting for me! I love figuring out designs that still make me feel edgy and sexy while pregnant. Flowy fabrics are always flattering,” she says, “but I still rock my stilettos.
“I’ve had so much fun with fashion over the months,” she adds. “I have been pregnant through every event I’ve done, from the Billboard Awards to Glastonbury.”
Hmmmmmm… I wonder if her new line of maternity wear will include stylish prosthetic baby bumps for women wishing to look like they have that “glow” without all the other hassles associated with actually being pregnant?
Beyonce also talks about her decision to reveal her pregnancy at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards by wearing an orange Lanvin caftan and simply caressing her noticeable new belly:
“I put a lot of thought into how I wanted to unveil it. It was important to me that I was able to do it myself,” Beyoncé explains. … “I was extremely nervous. It was the toughest red carpet I ever did.
“I didn’t want a crazy picture or gossip story to break the news,” she continues, “so I decided to say nothing and proudly show my baby bump. I felt it was more powerful to see the love and enthusiasm as opposed to saying anything.”
The fake baby bump rumors started not long after the VMAs when a “top industry insider” told mediatakeout.com that the singer wore a prosthetic baby bump for her famous silent announcement because she was actually only a little more than eight weeks pregnant at the time and not really showing.
You can read some of the interview HERE, otherwise you will need to wait until the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar hits newsstands October 25. (Or possibly sooner if the magazine realizes they’ve got a hot commodity on their hands!)
