Modern Family star Ariel Winter has shared more about the breast reduction surgery she first revealed last summer.
In a candid GMA interview aired this morning, the 18-year-old actress, best known for her role as Alex Dunphy on ABC’s Modern Family, explained in detail the reasons for going from a bra size 32F to a 32D.
Winter first talked about all the unwanted attention that her curves brought. “Walking down the red carpet and seeing the photos afterward and having every headline be about my cleavage and–not about my talent. Not about what I was really there for,” Winter said.
She added:
I had wanted to get a breast reduction since I developed because I was in excruciating pain. I couldn’t sit up straight. It was always super uncomfortable for me to sleep. It was uncomfortable to sit. It was uncomfortable to walk. I remember breaking down in dressing rooms because I couldn’t find a bathing suit because they had no top that would fit me. I just didn’t feel right and I did it for myself. It was the best change I ever made in my life.
Winter emphasized that she has no regret about opting for the reduction. “It definitely changed the way I felt about myself,” she explained. “It changed the way I felt physically. It really just gave me so much more confidence that I don’t now have to put on. I just feel like I can be confident.”
Winter even talked about all the headlines she made recently when the dress she wore to the Screen Actors Guild Awards revealed her scars. “The funny part is I didn’t even notice them,” she explained. “I didn’t think to cover them. I didn’t even think twice….It really astounded me when I was getting a lot of comments from people telling me to put my scars away and that they were gross. And I think that’s just so ridiculous, considering they’re a part of me. They’re not going away.”
