When Robin Thicke was singing “Blurred Lines,” he was also seeing them.

“I was high on Vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio,” he told lawyers during a deposition regarding whether he ripped off Marvin Gaye to create the hit song, TMZ reports. “Every day, I woke up, I would take a Vicodin to start the day and then I would fill up a water bottle with vodka and drink it before and during my interviews.”

Robin said his addiction is proof he wasn’t capable of writing the song.

“The reality is, is that Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song,” he explained.

When attorneys for the Gaye family cited an interview Robin gave last year where he boasted about writing something inspired by “Got to Give It Up,” Robin responded, “With all due respect, I was high and drunk every time I did an interview last year.”

He said he “sobered up” this summer in an attempt to win back estranged wife Paula Patton.

“I’ve been sober for the last 2 months,” he said. “When your wife leaves you, it gives you good reason to sober up.”

However — and this is a pretty big “however” when talking about sobriety — he admitted he still drinks. He just quit the pills.
