LHHNY Mendeecees and Yandy Smith-Harris offer optimistic updates on his time in prison
Love & Hip Hop New York fans are still recovering from the news that cast member Mendeecees Harris has been ordered to serve a lengthy prison sentence on drug trafficking charges. However, there’s no shortage of good news for the Harris family as LHHNY Season 7 gets ready to air.
As we reported when Mendeecees surrendered to authorities and formally began his sentence, his eight-year sentence came with a couple of asterisks. For one thing, U.S. District Judge Frank Geraci, Jr. noted at the time of Harris’ sentencing that Mendeecees had been working hard at turning his life around. In part because Mendeecees had become a prominent anti-drug speaker to disadvantaged youth all along the East Coast, Geraci gave him the shortest possible sentence–eight years–that federal guidelines allowed. In addition, Mendeecees had already served fifteen months in prison before being sentenced; that figure is now twenty-five months, or a little more than two years. Finally, it’s possible that, with good behavior, the eight years could be reduced to six, or even five.
And Mendeecees himself has impressed fans with his upbeat, positive attitude in his sporadic social media updates. His most recent update not involving his recent birthday (on which more in a minute) is certainly an example of both:
As for Mendeecees’ birthday? His wife Yandy couldn’t contain herself, and went social media crazy with happy birthday wishes for her husband. It’s clear that the Harris family, despite its tribulations, is full of love:
Love & Hip Hop New York Season 7 is expected to premiere this November.
