Khloe Kardashian has offered a brutally honest Lamar Odom recovery update, sharing with fans the latest news about how Odom is doing in the wake of October’s drug overdose and seizure, in light of recent reports that the former NBA star is preparing to leave the hospital.
Updates on the Lamar Odom recovery situation have been sporadic since Odom’s incident. Weeks ago, his recovery from near-death was called a “miracle” by medical observers, but the few updates estranged wife Khloe Kardashian has provided on her ongoing press tour have been less encouraging. Most recently, a close friend of Lamar’s who asked that he remain anonymous shared a stark reminder of how far Odom has to go, saying that Odom “will never be the same.”
The latest Lamar Odom recovery update does come from Khloe Kardashian herself, who recently appeared on the Today Show. Khloe did say that Odom is off of a ventilator and can breathe on his own, ending weeks of speculation on the topic. However, her overall prognosis was somewhat less encouraging:
He’s OK. Every day is different. The good thing is he’s off of medical machines that will keep him alive. He’s learning how to walk again, and [continuing] cognitive therapy and speech therapy. They think, like, within a year and a half to two years, he might, you know—mentally—be fully recovered, but they don’t know.
That report jives with a recent Lamar Odom recovery update from Entertainment Tonight, which cited a close family insider: “He definitely has some memory loss,” said the friend, who further confirmed that Odom “sometimes forgets his own name.
“He forgets a lot of people’s names,” continued the source. “He’s not doing great. His speech is still slurred and he can barely walk on his own yet.”
At the same time, Khloe was able to confirm that Lamar’s “kidneys are recovered and all of his organs are pretty much recovered….It’s more his brain that’s still affected.”
Odom, who suffered a seizure as the result of a drug overdose at a Nevada brothel on October 13th, is “unlikely” to be charged with drug possession, according to the local District Attorney–meaning that, while the medical road ahead is long, Lamar’s legal path is at least clear.
