Jason Patric loses custody battle for artificially inseminated son

Jason-Patric

A judge has denied The Lost Boys and Rush actor Jason Patric’s attempt to win custody and paternity rights for his son.

Patric has been in the throes of a heated legal fight with ex-girlfriend Danielle Schreiber. The two were an item for many years but parted ways back in 2009. At the time of the split Jason didn’t provide Danielle any monetary compensation but did donate some sperm with the understanding that he’d have nothing to do with the raising of any child that might be created from his parting gift.

Schreiber, with the assistance of a doctor (this part is important), went and got herself artificially inseminated with Patric’s seed and welcomed her son Gus in December of 2009.

Patric wasn’t part of Gus’ life until 2011 when he and Schreiber reignited their relationship. The two parted ways once again and Patric decided at that point he wished to seek custody.

The trial had been going on for a week when the presiding judge put a halt to Jason’s bid citing a law that states if a man donates sperm to a woman he is not married to and she’s inseminated with the help of a doctor, then said man has no claim for custody or paternity rights.

What do you think? Should Jason have any paternity rights?
