Janet Hubert calls Alfonso Ribeiro a tampon, media hoe, etc. over Fresh Prince reunion photo
The cast of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air had a joyful reunion this weekend, and an Instagram photo of them together took the internet by storm. But, the photo has inspired another storm in the form of a scathingly bitter reaction from actress Janet Hubert, who played Aunt Viv on the show for the first 3 seasons before being replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid.
“I know the media hoe Alphonso Ribero has posted his so called reunion photo,” Janet begins her Facebook tirade, misspelling Alfonso’s first and last name. “Folks keep telling me about it.”
Janet says of Alfonso, who famously played Carlton Banks on the show: “He was always the a** wipe for Will [Smith].” That metaphor was shifted a bit from her earlier reaction in the comments section of another Facebook post. “This was from the dumb ass Alphonso Ribero, who likes to try and be the spokesperson for the show. He is Will’s tampon…has been for a long long time.”
So what about a do over with both Aunt Vivs? “There will never be a true reunion of the Fresh Prince,” Janet says. “I have no interest in seeing any of these people on that kind of level.”
So why is she so salty about the picture? ““I am not offended in the least, by this photo…” Janet insists. “It was an event for Karen’s charity. It does however prompt me to take some meetings in Hollywood to pitch my memoir PERFECTION IS NOT A SITCOM MOM, and tell of the behind the scenes story before I leave this earth.”
One Facebook commenter shared an excerpt from a Refinery 29 article lamenting the absence of Janet from the the photo. “The only Aunt Viv we acknowledge is Janet Hubert, also known as dark-skinned Aunt Viv,” the article reads.
“Will hates dark skinned sisters unless they have lots of money, and straight hair,” Janet replied. “But he had a brown mamma,” she added, along with a tongue-out emoji sticker.
Janet later posted a video clip with some of her highlights from the first season on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, including scenes with Uncle Phil, played by late actor James Avery:
We reached out to Carlton Banks for his reaction to Aunt Viv’s comments, and here’s what he had to dance about it:
Now we all just sit back and wait for Kenya Moore to post the first reunion photo from her classic sitcom Life Twirls On, which Janet Hubert left in a similar fashion.
