After suffering the gut-punching blows of a surprise divorce via text message, pop princess Katy Perry thought her next album was going to be dark, maybe even acoustic. When the first single “Roar,” an anthem about picking yourself up and winning, came out it was obvious that wasn’t happening. Katy still goes to some dark places on PRISM: “Ghost” mentions that divorce text in the first line, and in the final song “By the Grace of God,” Katy talks about contemplating suicide.

The marriage of Russell Brand and Katy Perry was short-lived, but apparently we’ll never stop hearing about it. They were only married for 14 months, and because of Katy’s rigorous touring schedule, they barely spent any time together. Even so, it seems it was enough time for sex-addicted Russell to get tired of his rarely seen wife. He recently joked during his standup routine that he fantasized about “anyone else” during sexy times.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand first met on the set of Get Him To The Greek in the summer of 2009. The pair began dating in September, were engaged in December, and one year later they wed. In the beginning it was a storybook celebrity happy ending for the two, but after 14 months of marriage, Russell filed for divorce. In the July 2013 issue of Vogue Magazine, Katy is opening up about the marriage, her divorce, and moving on.

When you sign off with a smiley face and your ex-husband seeks no spousal support even though he had every right to pursue that avenue I think you have a great opportunity to remain friends in the future. Singer Katy Perry wants everybody to know one thing: Nobody speaks for Katy Perry other than Katy Perry!

Katy took to Twitter to thank her fans for their support after her husband of 14 months filed for divorce on December 30, but immediately after she angrily tweeted in response to the numerous stories about the split that quoted her family and sources close to her. It also assumed she is referencing her parents recent sermon in Ohio during which the topic of Katy’s divorce came up numerous times.
