Arkansas judge admits to leaking Charlize Theron adoption details, making inappropriate comments
Arkansas judge Mike Maggio confessed to leaking details Charlize Theron was going through the adoption process two months before the Oscar-winner went public with the news.
In addition to revealing Charlize was adopting a black child, the circuit judge made racist, sexist and otherwise prejudiced comments on a Louisiana State University fan message board in early 2012. He posted the comments as “geauxjudge.”
In a post on Monday, Blue Hog Report writer Matt Campbell presented a great deal of information linking Judge Maggio to the LSU comments.
“It quickly became obvious that it was an Arkansas judge: Circuit Judge and Court of Appeals Candidate Mike Maggio,” said the Blue Hog Report writer. “Even more surprising, in addition to leaking confidential adoption information, Judge Maggio apparently has a habit of making sexist, racist, and homophobic comments. A lot of them.”
Below are the comments related to Charlize and two of the many prejudiced statements…
As Blue Hog Report noted, those actions go against several rules for circuit judges.
The judge responded a few days later, saying the theory is correct. He added he takes “full responsibility” and is quitting his campaign for the Arkansas Court of Appeals board.
“I apologize deeply for my lapse in personal judgment and I have no excuse. The comments posted were not acceptable,” said the father-of-five. “These comments are not a reflection of who I am.”
Arkansas’ Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission director David Sachar told Arkansas Times they are investigating Judge Maggio’s conduct.
