Love and Hip Hop Miami and Love and Hip Hop Houston are both rushing production for a VH1 debut later this year, according to a new report. Last week, a series of reports had the Love & Hip Hop franchise expanding to New Orleans; as of today, though, it looks like producer Mona Scott-Young has two other southern cities on her mind.
TMZ broke the story originally, claiming that Love and Hip Hop Miami and Houston were aiming to make the series “sexier and sweatier.” According to their story, “producers are already auditioning cast members in both cities,” and those producers “[hope] to get the casts nailed down by April,” so the two shows can be ready for a premiere in late summer of 2016. Which show will air first? “Whichever city seems more promising–aka ratchet and drama-filled,” says the site.
Love and Hip Hop Miami has been a rumored new addition to the LHH series for some time. Scott-Young, who oversees all LHH-related productions, once teased south Florida as a destination in an interview with The Jasmine Brand. “It’s no secret,” she said, “that I’ve looked at a few cities….I think that there are some great stories…to tell.”
When asked which other cities were specific possibilities, Scott-Young answered in the affirmative regarding Love and Hip Hop Miami: “Yeah, I’d love to do Detroit, I’d love to do Houston, Texas; so, we have looked at a bunch of other cities–Miami I’ve looked at as well–so we’re always looking to expand.”
In addition, a Wetpaint article on the likelihood of Love and Hip Hop Miami debuting later this year points out that auditions are being kept secret. There’s “no word on which celebs have made it through the auditioning phase,” though “it’s said a few big names have been thrown into the mix, as well as a few lesser known people connected to the vibrant nightlife of each city.”
Some of the bigger names being mentioned in connection with Love and Hip Hop Miami include Brianna Perry, Rick Ross, and Trina. It is worth pointing out, though, that Trina was vehemently against getting involved with any LHH spinoffs just a couple of years ago. Trina claims she was asked to participate in Love and Hip Hop Miami back in 2014, but declined because the show’s formula was too limiting. “It’s entertaining, for the most part,” she said at the time. “But I think there is so much more that you can offer on television than boobs flying out, shoes throwing, hair pulling, drinks in the face.
“[I would] need to be in control of it to do that,” Trina explained. “That’s definitely one of my issues.”
