Degrassi canceled after 14 seasons

Degrassi Canceled

After 14 years, class is out for good this summer at Degrassi High School.

“For an incredible 14 seasons, Degrassi has been a groundbreaking show tackling so many important topics that real teens face in their everyday lives,” Keith Dawkins, Senior Vice President and General Manager of TeenNick, said in a press release. “In the final episodes on TeenNick and through the hour-long special and social [media] activations, we hope to say goodbye in a way that is both fitting to the show and Degrassi’s passionate fan base.”

The show will wrap in July with final episodes that follow the seniors as they prepare for prom and graduation:

The new principal, Ms. Pill, introduces a strict new regime at Degrassi in response to the oomfchat scandal, and the unhappy students take out their frustrations on Zoë. Meanwhile, Clare and Eli are on good terms and committed to raising their baby together. Frankie and Winston decide to put on the musical production, “Caption Who,” penned by Winston himself. Also, Zig and Maya grow closer than ever.

The grand finale will air on Friday, July 31, along with It Goes There: Degrassi’s Most Talked About Moments, which will feature cast members, creators and fans’ reflections. Before then, the show has asked fans to share how the show affected them by using the #MyDegrassiMoment hashtag.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say very few people have watched Degrassi all the way through — but many who were teens from 2001-now probably tuned in to at least a few episodes. (Jimmy/Drake getting shot, anyone?) It’s sad to see the end–at least, until Degrassi: The Next Next Generation premieres in 20 years.
