Amy Schumer spent 5 days in the hospital for a serious illness

36-year-old comedian and actress Amy Schumer had her new film I Feel Pretty come out a week ago in the U.S., but she was unable to continue promoting the comedy — or attend its London premiere — because of a pretty serious illness.

In an Instgram post today, Schumer revealed that she’s been M.I.A. because she’s been hospitalized for five days with a severe kidney infection. She accompanied her explanation with photos of herself in the hospital, in which Schumer looks red, puffy, and extremely tired.

Here’s what I’ve been up to this week. I was hospitalized for 5 days with a horrible kidney infection. I want to give a big thank you to the doctors, the bad ass nurses also my husband who’s name is, i want to say, Chris? and my sisters Kimby and mol who have been by my side the whole time. I wanted to share this with you because this is sexy as hell but mostly because I was meant to go to London for the opening of I Feel Pretty and my doctors have told me that’s a no go. I’m really disappointed selfishly to miss this trip because I love London and Europe in general and all the great people (food) there. But I need to put my health first. I am so grateful for all the support the movie is getting. I hope people check it out in England and everywhere else in the world. It’s sweet and fun and you will walk out feeling better. Which is something I hope to feel soon too.

“I wanted to share this with you because this is sexy as hell,” Schumer joked about her unflattering hospital shots, “but mostly because I was meant to go to London for the opening of ‘I Feel Pretty’ and my doctors have told me that’s a no-go.”

Schumer expressed regret over not being able to attend the London premiere because she loves traveling to England. She also thanked American audiences for supporting the film and encouraged the international market to do so as well.

“It’s sweet and fun and you will walk out feeling better. Which is something I hope to feel soon too,” Schumer said. Hopefully she feels better soon.

Kidney infections are treatable, but it looks like the infection Schumer’s dealing with is pretty bad. It sounds like she’s on the mend, however. Hope she feels better soon.
