Video of FSU QB De’Andre Johnson punching female in face released
Today, the State Attorney’s Office in Tallahassee, Florida released a violent surveillance video that led to the arrest of Florida State University quarterback De’Andre Johnson.
The black and white footage shows 19-year-old Johnson punching a female in the face during an altercation at Yanni’s, a Tallahassee nightspot on the Tennessee Street strip. State Attorney Willie Meggs stated that he reached the decision to charge Johnson based primarily on this video.
According to court records obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat, the woman suffered bruising near her left eye, swelling of the left cheek and upper lip, and a small cut near the bridge of her nose.
Warning–this video features violent content:
Johnson left the bar after the incident while the woman remained until authorities arrived.
“She’s a good witness and she wants to testify,” Meggs said, of the victim. “She’s a little nervous about it.”
Johnson has also been charged with misdemeanor battery. The Florida State football team has suspended Johnson indefinitely.
In the meantime, Johnson has retained the legal services of attorney Jose Baez, best known for securing an acquittal in the murder trial of Casey Anthony, and for defending Bobbi Kristina’s ex-boyfriend Nick Gordon.
