PHOTOS VIDEOS Dia Frampton of Meg & Dia to compete on The Voice
NBC is going all the way with the promotion of their upcoming show The Voice. The network landed big name artists Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton to act as coaches for the singing competition that is based on a version of the show from The Netherlands called The Voice of Holland. Here’s the description of the format via the show’s official website:
The show’s innovative format features three stages of competition: the first begins with the blind audition, then the competition enters into a battle phase, and finally, the live performance. The show’s casting team is working with the music industry and searching the country for the best singers to bring to the blind audition process. During the blind auditions, the decisions from the coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches hear the contestants perform, but they don’t get to see them – thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by a contestant’s voice, he/she pushes a button to select the contestant. At this point, the coach’s chair will swivel to face the contestant selected. If more than one coach selects the talent, the power shifts to the contestant, who may choose which coach they want to work with throughout the competition.
We have an early confirmation of one of these “best singers” that was featured in one of the many video promos released by NBC. Her name is Dia Frampton and she’s the current lead singer of the band Meg & Dia. Come along as we meet the talented lady from St. George, Utah who will be looking to become “The Voice” and receive the grand prize of $100,000 and a recording contract.
Here is Dia’s bio via the Wiki page for Meg & Dia:
Dia Frampton (born October 2, 1987) is the lead singer of the band. She attended Dixie High School in St. George, Utah and Shadow Ridge High School in Las Vegas, Nevada; she graduated early by also homeschooling her senior year at the same time attending public school for her junior year in 2005 then moved to Salt Lake City with her sister to further their music career. She cites as influences Modest Mouse, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Joni Mitchell, The Avett Brothers, Rocky Votolato, Ben Folds, Etta James, Death Cab for Cutie, The Cranberries, and Cursive. During live performances, Dia plays percussion instruments, such as the cowbell and tambourine, and occasionally a Casio Privia keyboard. She almost always performs without shoes on.
I wonder if NBC is going to require Dia to cover up those tosies!?! Meg & Dia have already had quite a few successes including being the official MySpace band for The Warped Tour back in 2006. They signed with major label Warner Brothers in 2007 but were later dropped and are currently unsigned.

Dia has quite a few videos of her singing uploaded to the band’s YouTube page so I’ll provide a couple for you. First up here’s a very recent performance of her singing “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri.
And here is another of her doing a favorite of mine by The Avett Brothers called “The Ballad of Love and Hate.”
And I’d be amiss if i didn’t include a video of the band so here’s Meg & Dia with “Black Wedding.”
Good luck to Dia and keep checking for upcoming The Voice profiles. Here is one more parting shot, the one that outed Dia from NBC’s promo clip!
