MUG SHOT Sandlot’s Tom Guiry headbutted a cop, arrested for public intoxication
The curse of the child star strikes again! Actor Tom Guiry, who gained fame as Scotty Smalls in The Sandlot when he was just 11 years old, was arrested this past weekend while trying to board a Texas flight. The reportedly intoxicated Guiry allegedly became belligerent when approached by police officers — and ended up headbutting a cop.
According to Houston police spokesman Victor Senties, officials at Bush Intercontinental Airport deemed Guiry was too drunk to fly on Saturday. They offered him the option of sobering up at an area “drunk tank,” but Guiry reportedly became enraged.
“At that point, he gets agitated and makes repeated threats against the sergeant,” Senties told Fox News.
When the officer informed Guiry he was under arrest for public intoxication, the 31-year-old allegedly headbutted the cop. That resulted in a laceration on the officer’s head. Guiry was the taken into police custody and charged with assault on a public servant.
TMZ reports Guiry was released after posting a $5,000 bail. The actor’s reps haven’t commented on the incident.
With adulthood roles in Black Hawk Down, Mystic River and NBC’s The Black Donnellys, the former child star seemed to be faring pretty well. That makes the news of his arrest all the more disappointing… We were still cheering for ya, Smalls!
