January Jones is eating her son’s placenta in pill form
January Jones, who headed back to work on Mad Men just weeks before giving birth to her baby Xander Dane last September (still no one knows who the daddy is,) says she’s getting her energy and stamina from eating her baby’s placenta. Her doula had her placenta encapsulated so January can just swallow it down with her daily vitamins. This can sound a bit weird for some, but it’s definitely a strong niche trend. She told People magazine:
“I have a great doula who makes sure I’m eating well, with vitamins and teas, and with placenta capsulation.”
It’s something I was very hesitant about, but we’re the only mammals who don’t ingest our own placentas. It’s not witch-crafty or anything! I suggest it to all moms!”
Placenta encapsulation is popular because it’s just like taking a vitamin, and it’s a easy business for some doulas, but some mothers like to eat their placentas cooked up with garlic and herbs, blended into a smoothie, or made into jerky.
January isn’t the only celebrity who’s into this, Tom Cruise also likes to eat placenta, but he doesn’t encapsulate it, he likes to cook it up. He says it tastes like “veal, but with a springier texture like heart.” It might be a little wacky, but it can’t hurt, and there might be something to the health benefits, even if it’s only the placebo effect.
