Jake Owen and Lacey Buchanan to divorce
Prediction: A big theme in country songs next year will be heartbreak and moving forward. First Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert announced their divorce. Then came Reba McEntire, who had been married for 26 years! And, now, we’ve got Jake Owen, who just revealed that he and wife Lacey Buchanan are going their separate ways after three years of marriage. Jake announced the split with a statement on Twitter:
I wanted to let my fans know how much I’ve appreciated their support of not only my career, but my family as a whole. Sadly, Lacey and I have decided to end our marriage. We want to focus on our daughter Pearl and make sure that she has a beautiful life with loving parents. We appreciate you respecting our privacy during this time.
In addition to asking for support and privacy, Jake said this is “the hardest” thing he’s ever done. Previously, Jake revealed he and Lacey had been discussing divorce.
“For the last few months, have really been having a hard time and struggling with communication, and literally talking about divorce and all kinds of stuff,” he told NASH Country Weekly this summer. “And I don’t want to talk about that, but after long conversations for days and weeks, part of us talking about it and getting it out there and letting people know that we’re the same as they are, we have problems, too, it made us feel better talking about the things we’ve kept from each other.”
Jake and model Lacey Buchanan met on the set of his “8 Second Ride” music video. Jake proposed to Lacey on stage during a benefit show in Vero Beach, Florida in April of 2012, and the two were married that May. They welcomed a daughter, Olive Pearl, in November of the same year.
