Duggar Digest: Family marks Mother’s Day in big ways, endorses presidential candidate
On tonight’s 19 Kids and Counting, the family gathers in Arkansas for the gender reveal party for Josh and Anna Duggar’s fourth child. SPOILER: It’s a girl!
“Josh thought it was a boy, I thought it was a girl,” Anna said of their guesses before they learned the baby’s sex. “Mackynzie wanted a girl, Michael wanted a boy.”
GrandDuggar No. 4 is due in July.
The Duggars celebrate Mother’s Day
For the first time this year, the family honored Jill Dillard and Jessa Seewald along with Anna, Michelle Duggar and Grandma Duggar on Mother’s Day. The Sunday was especially significant for Jill and Derick — as they not only dedicated son Israel Dillard in their church, but also celebrated Derick’s mom, who was battling stage 4 Non-Hodgkins lymphoma this time last year.
In a sweet tribute to Cathy Dillard on his blog, Derick said her “story of battle and triumph over cancer is nothing short of a miracle, performed by the one true God, our Lord Jesus Christ, through many medical personnel to whom I am eternally grateful.”
The family also sent several sweet messages to Michelle Duggar.
“What a wonderful Mother’s Day! My children (and husband!) all made special efforts to show me how much they love me,” Michelle said on Facebook. “I also loved the sweet videos my grown married children made for me! I hope your mother’s day was wonderful.”
Who do the Duggars support for president in 2016?
Although the Duggars were clearly in the May mindset for Mother’s Day, they are also looking ahead to the next presidential election in November 2016. The family endorsed Rick Santorum in 2012, but they formally threw their support behind their former governor Mike Huckabee for the next election. (According to Business Insider, the family “begged” Governor Huckabee to run in 2012. When he didn’t, they went with their second choice, Santorum.)
“Governor Huckabee is a man of faith who is very wise and will help get out nation back on track,” Michelle said for the “I Like Mike” section of Huckabee’s campaign website.
“America needs Governor Huckabee for president,” Jim Bob Dugagr added. “Governor Huckabee has the communication skills of Ronald Reagan, and a common sense business approach to government.”
In his recently published book God, Guns, Grits and Gravy, Governor Huckabee said there’s mutual respect between him and the TLC reality stars.
“I’ve marveled at the exemplary manners and behavior of all their children,” he said in the book. “[They] have endured relentless and vicious ridicule from the snobby and snotty sophisticates… [Bullies] exemplify their own jealousy of how well behaved the Duggar kids are compared to the little hellions and yuppie larvae created by the critics of the Duggars.”
19 Kids and Counting airs on TLC tonight at 9/8c.
