Community canceled by NBC — plus news on ABC, Fox and CW cancellations

Community Season 5 - Canceled

Class will not be in session at Greendale Community College next fall.

NBC officially canceled Community today, after years of speculation that was driven by moderately low ratings but high fan engagement. As a “bubble” show for the better part of its run, Community bounced around to different nights and was pulled in as a mid-season replacement last fall. (Writers basically had to make each season finale work as a potential series finale because its status was continually up in the air.) Community starred Joel McHale, Yvette Nicole Brown, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, Alison Brie and — previously — Chevy Chase and Donald Glover.

NBC also canceled Revolution after two seasons. Hannibal and About a Boy got renewed for next fall.

We’re in the height of Upfront Season right now, during which time networks announce what’s been canceled, renewed or ordered for pickup: ABC’s canned Suburgatory, Super Fun Night, Trophy Wife, Mixology and The Neighbors. CW isn’t brining back The Carrie Diaries, Star-Crossed and The Tomorrow People. Fox canceled Surviving Jack, Enlisted, Dads, Rake, Almost Human, Raising Hope and The X-Factor.

UPDATE NBC also canceled Believe, Crisis and Growing Up Fisher.
