Catherine Zeta-Jones back in treatment for bipolar II disorder
TMZ reports that Catherin Zeta-Jones is back in treatment for her bipolar II disorder.
“We’ve learned … the 43-year-old Academy Award winner checked in to the treatment center Monday … and is expected to complete a 30-day program,” TMZ says.
In 2011 Catherina Zeta-Jones also received treatment for this disorder, which affects about 2.6% of the population. At that time her husband Michael Douglas was still undergoing cancer treatment, so she chose to get treatment for herself so she could handle the stress. Thankfully Michael has been cancer-free for almost two years.
According to TMZ’s sources, this is a “maintenance,” measure by the actress. It’s great to hear that she’s looking out for her health, and raising awareness about mental health.
In 2012 Catherina Zeta-Jones said she’s learned to stop reading things online about her because she couldn’t handle the negativity. “You can’t escape what people say, and if you’re human it can be painful,” she said “The smartest thing I did was to stop going online. I’m the sort of person who will just look for the negative.[My husband] Michael [Douglas] can’t really understand it, but that is the way I am. With my bipolar thing, that’s poison. So I just stopped. Cold turkey. And it’s so liberating.”
