Billion Dollar Wreck Season 2 update: Martin Bayerle teases filming of summer 2017 dive

Billion Dollar Wreck Season 2 update

Fans of History’s sunken treasure hunt Billion Dollar Wreck have good reason to be excited. Though there’s been no official Billion Dollar Wreck Season 2 update from History, Martin Bayerle has made it very clear to his fans that he’s moving forward with summer 2017 dive plans. And his most recent social media posts indicate that, in addition to investing heavily in Season 1 of the show, History might already be prepping its cameras for the follow-up.

As we’ve previously reported, Captain Bayerle’s excursions into the RMS Republic are going to continue whether History’s cameras are around or not, and it’s his intention to document the dives. If anything, it sounds like his timetable might force the network’s hand: “Whatever decision [History and A&E] make,” he explained, “will NOT affect our continued operations. Media exposure has always been a part of our plan as a prelude to marketing RMSR’s cargoes. So, you’ll be able to follow the events through one, a few, or many media outlets. Thanx for watching.”

This may sound like standard reality TV posturing. But an even more recent update, apparently filmed from Bayerle’s own front window, appears to feature a caravan of camera trucks setting up shop nearby. And the clip’s caption suggests that Season 2 filming could begin as early as May:

Plus, devoteés of Bayerle’s Facebook updates will recall that in recent weeks he’s shared the news of Billion Dollar Wreck‘s international syndication. The show is now airing in Spain, Italy, Brazil, and China–in turn implying that more overseas markets, and more episodes, aren’t far behind.

While we wait for official news from Bayerle or the networks involved in Billion Dollar Wreck‘s production, here’s a little something to tide you over: throwback footage of Bayerle explaining the 1987 dive, straight from network news:

And here’s a little something for the treasure hunter in all of us 😉
