Marie Osmond’s 18-year-old son Michael Blosil leapt to his death from his downtown Los Angeles apartment Friday night.

The troubled teen had a history with severe depression and reportedly left a suicide note saying that he intended to end his life to end his life-long struggle with the condition, a condition that left him feeling friendless and without the ability to ever fit in. An autopsy and toxicology report will be performed.

Entertainment Tonight broke the story and received this statement from Marie:

My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time.

Marie’s brother Donny told ET, “Please pray for my sister and her family.”

Michael Blosil was one of eight children for Marie and husband Brian Blosil and was adopted when he was a baby. In November of 2007, when he was only 16, Michael entered rehab. His mother Marie spoke about it at the time: ‘My son Michael is an amazing young man, shown through his courage in facing his issues. As his mother, I couldn’t be more proud of him.’

Our condolences go out to Michael’s friends and family.

Donny and Marie have canceled their Las Vegas show scheduled for this evening.

UPDATE – TMZ reports that the Los Angeles Police Department has launched a death investigation to make sure there was no foul play involved.
