Why did Kim Kardashian and Kanye West name their daughter North West?

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed their first daughter over a week ago and dropped millions of jaws when it was revealed they had chosen to name her North West. Sources close to Kimye are now speaking out and revealing why the couple decided on such an unconventional name!

While it may seem that the name is purely a directional reference, it apparently has more of a spiritual bent. By “North,” the couple was signifying the “highest power.”

“North is the most high. There is nothing higher than North,” a source explains to E! News. “And, when it comes to the stars, the sun rises in the East and sets in the West.”

Kim and Kanye “look at her as being their highest point together,” says a source. “Nothing is more special than North. Kim keeps saying, ‘She is our North Star.'”

A second source told TMZ, “They chose the name North because they see it as a metaphor for ‘up.'” They have even been telling close friends, “What’s North of North? Nothing.” That statement seems a little odd because not only does it apply to every direction (What’s East of East?) but they seem to be forgetting their daughter has a last name that distorts the question a bit, although the answer to “What’s Northwest of Northwest?” is still nothing.

In recent years, Kim made it no secret that she was a bit spooked by the idea of motherhood, but since North’s arrival, she’s adjusted better than she ever imagined. “She thought it would be so hard, but it’s all coming so naturally to her,” a source told E!. “She’s loving motherhood, and all her fears have gone away.”

Kanye is also enjoying his new role as daddy. “Kanye is so hands on. He’s changing diapers,” the source adds.
