Kim Kardashian has always had a thing for Elizabeth Taylor. They both have dark, shapely good looks, both love jewelry and heavy makeup, and both have multiple marriages in a lifetime. Multiple loves and marriages happen to some people, but few people actually plan it (including Elizabeth Taylor, who told Kim that “live happens”) but it sounds like Kim Kardashian is actively planning and hoping to fall in love and get married a bunch of times.
She shocked the world when she split with Kris Humphries after a circus of a wedding last year. Lots of people thought that because of the all the media hype shenanigans surrounding the wedding, the potential money made and comps receive, and the reality shows involved, maybe the entire marriage wasn’t sincere. Kris even tried to seek an annulment on grounds of fraud. It’s really hard to know who is really sincere in this whole thing.
Kim claimed she was in love with love and really meant to stay married to Kris, but she had to follow her heart and leave him because they weren’t working out. She even admitted in a blog that she got caught up in the “hoopla” of the wedding, meaning maybe she had second thoughts going in. But maybe one of the reasons she went ahead with her second marriage (click here to read about her first) was because she knew she wanted to be married multiple times, and it was okay if this one didn’t work out.
Here are Kim and Kourtney, about a year ago, discussing how much Kim wants to fall in love and marry like “fourteen times” like her idol Elizabeth Taylor. Elizabeth Taylor only got married eight times to seven husbands (Richard Burton married Elizbeth twice.) When Kim interviewed Elizabeth shortly before she died February 2011 for Harper’s Bazzaar, she asked Elizabeth how she could go about acquiring as many jewels and husbands as Elizabeth had. Elizabeth replied with grace and wisdom. She basically said she didn’t PLAN on having a bunch of husbands, but life just happened to her.
KIM KARDASHIAN: You are my idol. But I’m six husbands and some big jewels behind.* What should I do?
ELIZABETH TAYLOR: I never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands. For me, life happened, just as it does for anyone else. I have been supremely lucky in my life in that I have known great love, and of course I am the temporary custodian of some incredible and beautiful things. But I have never felt more alive than when I watched my children delight in something, never more alive than when I have watched a great artist perform, and never richer than when I have scored a big check to fight AIDS. Follow your passion, follow your heart, and the things you need will come.
In the clip below from last year’s Kourtney and Kim Take New York, which was filmed before she spoke to Elizabeth Taylor about her desire to marry a bunch of times, and before she had met Kris Humprhies, Kim and Kourtney discuss Kim’s ambition to fall in love and get married a bunch of times, just like Elizabeth Taylor. Kim gets genuinely excited at the prospect of sharing new experienced with “all the different people.”
Here’s their conversation:
Kim: Every time I hang out with someone (her married bodyguard Shengo had just left her after a makeout session), I just really start to like them and then I like, I don’t know, it just sucks. It was fun and I didn’t want it to go away.
Kourtney: I think that everything happens for a reason, and not everyone finds their perfect person at the exact same age.
Kim: “Yeah, I just don’t want to be 100.”
Kourtney “Maybe you’re meant be 100 and fall in love. Maybe you’re meant to fall in love like Elizabeth Taylor.”
Kim: “Oh, how fun.”
Kourt: “And get married 14 times.”
Kim: “That what I want.”
Kourt;”I know, so look on the bright side.”
Kim: “Now that I think about it, that’s what I want. Elizabeth Taylor is like, my idol. I could have new experiences with all the different people”
Kourt: “You’ve one in the can. (At the time this was shot, Kim had not yet even met Kris Humphries, but she had been married and and divorced from first husband Damon Thomas in her early 20s.)
Kim: “I know.”
Kourt; “Keep on being the Kim that just falls in love, and you will find the perfect person when you’re supposed to.”
Now, Kim has two down, and only six more marriages, and five more people to go before she matches her idol Liz Taylor. According to Liz’s words, she didn’t seem to be thrilled with Kim idolizing her because of her husbands. Kim’s definitely made a heap load of money off her sheer will, and sharing her life with the public (with the help of her mother and family,) but maybe she should idolize Elizabeth Taylor for honing her craft of acting, and being a good humanitarian. Kim seems to have made a start with that by volunteering at a homeless shelter on Thanksgiving, and visiting Haiti. Keep up the good work!
*It should be noted that besides having a bunch of jewels and husbands, Elizabeth Taylor was an effing great actress!
