To help promote the Teen Mom OG Season 6 premiere on August 22, Amber Portwood spoke with People about what fans can expect to see this season as far as her relationship with her much-maligned fiance, Matt Baier — including details on their planned October 10 wedding!
“Everything got thrown on the back burner when stuff happened,” Amber tells People, “but you’ll see us working through certain things together and you’ll see us talking about marriage and what we’re going to do.”
By “stuff,” Amber is referring to the avalanche of women who came forward claiming they were owed child support for children fathered by Matt over the last couple decades. (You might recall Gary Shirley dropping the bombshell on Amber — who appeared to know nothing about most of the claims — while MTV cameras were rolling last season.)
“Honestly, I tried to stay neutral in the whole situation because I didn’t know what was going on yet,” Amber says of the claims made about Matt by women he had previously been involved with. “I didn’t know what the truth was. I didn’t want to make a rash decision on something that everyone else was saying. You will see in this season me making my decision on what I was going to do with me and Matt.”
Amber adds that fans may be seeing Amber and Matt on more than just Teen Mom OG in the near future. “[This season] you’ll see us talking about everything in the media and getting the truth out there, and we’re actually about to go to the Dr. Drew show to talk about online bullying.” If that is the case, then I hope Matt is completely honest and cops to being a HUGE online bully to numerous cast members of Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 before he started dating Amber.
Prior to Amber’s interview with People, about all fans had to go on was the Teen Mom OG Season 6 preview trailer, which included Amber stating “The next step for me and Matt is to get married,” before later being seemingly frustrated and explaining: “All of his crazy exes are coming out.”
