Kendall Jenner denies texting during Michael Brown tribute at the VMAs

During Sunday night’s Video Music Awards on MTV, presenter Common asked everyone to bow their heads in a moment of silence for Michael Brown, the teenager killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. During the same solemn moment, viewers of the livestream noticed Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner appeared to be engrossed by their phones for the tribute — leading to major backlash.

“Sad to read the Kardashian clan was texting during the Michael Brown tribute at the VMA’s,” one person said on Twitter. “Can’t say I’m surprised though.

Another commented, “To be fair to the Kardashian girls… texting is pretty silent, y’all. Oh, and they’re terrible people.”

In the following days, the Kardashian-Jenner girls didn’t address the controversy and much of the media quickly forgave them to address the serious matter of Kendall dropping “Jenner” from her name when it comes to modeling work.

Apparently sensing that storm had mostly passed, Kendall commented on it during a new interview with Huffington Post Entertainment: “I just specifically remember not texting and bowing my head down for the moment of silence. That’s all I have to say about that.”

I don’t know about you, but I buy the story… Mostly because it’s still technically true if Kendall was bowing her head down to read Twitter or check Instagram.
