Viola Davis and Jennifer Lopez co-starring in Lila and Eve movie by Lifetime Films and A+E Studios
Fresh on the heels of Lifetime’s HUGELY successful made-for-TV movies Flowers In the Attic and Lizzie Borden Took An Ax (the Saturday night premieres of which combined for a total of 10.5 million viewers!), the network’s movie-making branch officially announced earlier today it would be partnering with A+E Studios, JuVee Productions and ChickFlicks to produce the independent feature film Lila and Eve, starring Academy Award® and Golden Globe nominee Viola Davis (The Help, Doubt) and Golden Globe® Award nominee Jennifer Lopez (Out of Sight, Selena).
The movie, which was described as Thelma & Louise meets Fight Club in a recent casting call, is written by Pat Gilfillan and tells the story of grief-stricken mother Lila (played by Viola Davis) avenging her son’s drive-by-shooting death by enlisting the help of Eve (played by Jennifer Lopez), whose daughter has also passed away.
Here’s the synopsis from the press release:
Directed by Film Independent Spirit Award nominee Charles Stone III (Drumline, Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story), Lila and Eve tells the story of a grief stricken mother (Davis), who in the aftermath of her son’s murder in a drive-by shooting, attends a support group where she meets Eve (Lopez), who has lost her daughter. When Lila hits numerous roadblocks from the police in bringing justice for her son’s slaying, Eve urges Lila to take matters into her own hands to track down her son’s killers. The two women soon embark on a killing spree of their own, as they work to the top of the chain of drug dealers to avenge the murder of Lila’s son. Screen Actors Guild Award® winner Shea Whigham (American Hustle, Boardwalk Empire) also stars as Detective Holliston, who is investigating Lila and Eve’s crimes.
Ooooooooo damn that sounds good! Sadly, we’re going to have to be patient because the film is targeted for a theatrical release in late 2014/early 2015.
Lila and Eve follows Lifetime Films’ other big screen project, The Last of Robin Hood, which stars Kevin Kline, Susan Sarandon and Dakota Fanning, and premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The Last of Robin Hood will be released in theaters in early Summer 2014.
