Former Ultimate Survival Alaska participant Jimmy Gojdics (sometimes spelled Jimmy Gaydos) was found “suffering from apparent gunshot wounds” in his home on Sunday afternoon. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports troopers were tipped off to the shooting shortly after 3 p.m. It appears there was no sign of the shooter when they arrived. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
A friend of the self-described homesteader said Jimmy never seemed to make an enemy. He appeared on last year’s season of Ultimate Survival Alaska, but “sustained an injury that made it impossible for his team to continue in the competition,” a National Geographic spokesperson told The Associated Press. Despite his short time on the show, the spokesperson said Jimmy made an impression. He added, “We were saddened to learn of Mr. Gaydos’s untimely passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time.”
